Salad - Yeah Yeah EP

The 2nd single from Ice Cream, again four cool b-sides. After this Salad recorded a couple of demo's, got dropped by the label and split up. Marijne van der Vlugt then formed Cowboy Racer but I think she records radio jingles now and when I call a friend and I get his voicemail, I'm sure it's her telling me to leave a message.

Birds & Batteries - Sneaky Times

Dazed & Confused compares Birds & Batteries with Hot Chip and TV On The Radio. 'Sneaky Times' is a great track, get it below from The Fader.

Sneaky Times mp3

These New Puritans - Hidden

These New Puritans new LP Hidden is great, even better than their debut Beat Pyramid.
I saw them live 2 years ago and they played for just 15 minutes, too short but it was very good as you can see in the video below. The drummer is supergood.

Buy the album here. Download the free track 'Orion' here.

Salad - Cardboy King EP

This is the first single off Salad's second LP Ice Cream from 1997. It has four really nice b-sides. 'Cardboy King' is about a guy who puts adds from prostitues in telephone booths and visits them in turn afterwards.

Ipso Facto - Six And Three Quarters

It's a shame Ipso Facto broke up after their last single Six And Three Quarters, I was curious about the next one.
Also An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump announced today they split up, now we're never going to hear that record!

The Bon Bon Club - Lullaby

The Bon Bon Club started when they were still playing bass and drums in The Long Blondes. They only play covers, their first 7" had Pulp's 'Love Is Blind' and Death From Above 1979's 'Romantic Rights'. You can still get it here. Now the drummer left and they released a new single Sex On Fire.

Kristin Hersh - Sunray Venus (New Throwing Muses Demo)

Kristin Hersh hasn't released her beautiful new solo record Crooked yet and is already busy with another project: A new Throwing Muses record. Through her CASH project, people can support the development of the record with cash and the demo's are free to download for everybody. So if you want this new Throwing Muses record to happen, sign up here.

First demo 'Sunray Venus' sounds haunted and driven and I can't wait to hear the drums and bass added. I hope the other two Muses will participate in the demo's in the future.

The Victorian English Gentlemens Club - La Mer / Stupid As Wood

This is a double a-sided single with wooden sleeve, released in the summer of 2007. 'Stupid As Wood' is from their great self-titled debut and 'La Mer', the best track here, has bassist Louise on vocals pushed forward by the amazing army drumming of now ex-member Emma.

Can't stop listening to The Soft Pack. The photo above is the sleeve of their Muslims EP when they were still called The Muslims and they also released their finest 7" single Parasites. The b-side is a great Spacemen 3 cover. Get it here and listen below.

The Amps - Tipp City EP

After Last Splash Kim Deal started a 'new' band, The Amps. They recorded their only LP with a walkman and Steve Albini. The label pressed lots of copies because they thought it was going to be as big as Last Splash. Sadly it didn't. Now second hand shops always have a copy of Pacer and if you come across one, buy it. It's a supercool record.
'Breaking The Split Screen Barrier' has an ultra cool intro, 'Bragging Party' is one of Kim's finest songs and Divine Hammer b-side 'Hoverin' gets a make-over.
The Tipp City EP has two nice b-sides. 'Just Like A Briar' is a short punky song and there's a 'basement' demo that Kim recorded herself.
Get the EP from Moody Places here.

The Victorian English Gentlemens Club - Bored In Belgium

The Victorian English Gentlemens Club release the 3rd single from their brilliant second album Love On An Oil Rig on the 25th of January. It's called 'Bored In Belgium' and below you can see a live video they recorded somewhere in Belgium. Get the single here.

Veruca Salt - American Thighs

American Thighs is Veruca Salt's first and only good record. It was released in 1994 after the grunge hype and they were one of many Breeders lookalikes. After this LP they released the Blow It Out Your Ass It's Veruca Salt EP, which is a bit harder than the LP and was recorded by Steve Albini. The video's for the singles are quite nice.

Deerhunter - Dr. Glass (Daytrotter Session)

I like this version of 'Dr. Glass' from Deerhunter's Daytrotter Session because the guitars are more spikey than in the original which appeared on the Flourescent Grey EP.

You Say Party! We Say Die! - XXXX

The new YSP! WSD! LP XXXX is out in february. First single 'Laura Palmer's Prom' sounds a bit tame to me but 'Glory' rocks more like their old stuff. I thought their last album Lose All Time from 2006 was really good, 'Opportunity' and 'Downtown Mayors' were really good singles.

Kristin Hersh - Crooked

Another record that's coming out this year that I'm looking forward to is Kristin Hersh's Crooked. Since 2007 you can subscribe to her music for $10 per month, with the money she records songs and puts one online every month free for everybody to download. From these 22 songs she re-recorded 10 songs for Crooked. It's supercool to support one of your favourite singer-songwriters like this, there's no middleman, it's fair trade music.
Read more about this CASH project here. Listen, download the 22 CASH tracks and support Kristin directly here.
