Cake Like - Bruiser Queen
Bruiser Queen is Cake Like's second LP from 1997. It's less noisy than the first one and more tense. After this they recorded a third LP in 1999, Goodbye, So What? but they had lost their urgency by then.

Pylon - Cool
Lonelady's guitars sound a lot like Pylon. I love it how Vanessa Briscoe Hay from Pylon explains in the interview below that she doesn't recognise her own voice when she hears a Pylon record on the radio. Their first single 'Cool' sounds like it should be released next week. DFA reissued their album Gyrate a couple of years ago.

Lonelady - Interview
- "File next to ESG, Chrissie Hynde, Kristin Hersh" - The Guardian's New Band Of The Day
- "There is a lot about Lonelady that is 1978-1981/2, but the 79/81 that was thinking ahead and wondering what rock music could sound like in 2010/11/12 if, can you imagine, it made it that far." - Paul Morley, The Guardian

The XX - Night Time (Live)
On my birthday last summer, I went to see The XX with my friends in a small venue. It was very hot, there was a Michael Jackson party downstairs and just about 50 people for the XX. They had just released the Crystalised single but they didn't bring it with them on tour so we couldn't buy it. Two months later the same venue was completely sold out.

The Soft Pack - More Or Less / Pull Out
The new Soft Pack LP is good, but I expected more. It's not as straight forward as their last EP. The 'Answer To Yourself' single is cool and also 'Parasites' is on it. From the rest of the tracks I really like 'More Or Less' and 'Pull Out'. You can listen to them below:

Guerre Froide - Demain Berlin
I saw Guerre Froide live a couple of years ago, two French new wavers from the early 80's with earrings, a laptop and a guitar. They played songs from a new LP, a Joy Division cover and their best known track 'Demain Berlin' from their 1981 self-titled EP.
