Throwing Muses - Season Sessions; Fall

Throwing Muses are working on a new record and so far the demo's sound excellent. They also record sessions every season that are initially available as a free download but will later form a boxset released alongside the new album. The first Season Session just came out with tracks from Limbo, Hunkpapa The Fat Skier and Throwing Muses. It also has one of my favourite Muses songs, 'Red Eyes' from the Bright Yellow Gun single. LinkThe stream is below, you can download the tracks here:

The Breeders - The Real Deal (2002 Documentary)

This is a beautiful Dutch documentary from 2002. I remember seeing it on TV, it really impressed me. Especially Kim singing the song 'Off You'. Title TK had just been released and I think it was hugely underrated, it's such a cool record.

Mr. Maxted - Lives & Privacy (94-89)

This is Mordant Music's first Mr. Maxted release, it's still available from their shop.

Mr. Maxted - Momentum

I'm a big fan of Mr. Maxted last release Lives & Privacy (94-89). Cheap drum machines and keyboards recorded on tape 20 years ago and released in 2008 on grey vinyl by Mordant Music. Last month they released this cassette with recordings from the same period with one new track. There are just 100 copies, but the mp3's are available from Boomkat. They plan to release more from Mr. Maxted's archives in the next year.
Below a track by Mr. Maxted and Baron Mordant from a compilation, to give you an idea. Go to 3 Brain Karnak Interloper for more.

Forest Swords - Dagger Paths EP

Forest Swords' single 'Rattling Cage' is one of the best singles of the year. This EP is as beautiful as the single, especially the track 'The Light'. The sounds he makes with his guitar add so much to the Burial / grime tracks. 'If Your Girl' is a cover of Aaliyah's 'If Your Girl Only Knew'. I haven't heard anything like this.

Laetitia Sadier - One Million Year Trip / By The Sea

Laetitia Sadier's first proper solo album sounds great, a lot fresher than her previous solo work with her other band Monade. The sound is more post-rock / krautrock and reminds me of early Stereolab records. Listen / download the tracks 'One Million Year Trip' and 'By The Sea' below.
Stereolab are still on a

'Hiatus / Sabbatical / Pause / Intermission / Breather'

as their website states, but also come with a 'new' record soon: Not Music, which was recorded during the Chemical Chords sessions.

The Trip tracklist:

01 One Million Year Trip
02 Fluid Sand
03 Our Interests Are the Same
04 The Natural Child
05 Statues Can Bend
06 By The Sea
07 Unfasten
08 Un Soir, Un Chien
09 Another Monster
10 Ceci Est Le Coeur
11 Summertime
12 Release, Open Your Little Earthling Hands

Puro Instinct - Puro Instinct EP

Pearl Harbor is now called Puro Instinct and this EP was released last June.
The standout track is 'Slivers Of You' which was released as a single before. They still sound like a confused Lush single played in the wrong speed, quite a unique sound.
They have a cool blog as well.

Throwing Muses - Cherry Candy / Dripping Trees

This new Throwing Muses demo was released today. Below also a compilation of the demo's so far. Most of these songs were written after the Limbo album from 1996. There are about 40 songs now for the new record. Along with the release there will also be a Throwing Muses anthology with songs from 1986 to 1996. I tried to make my own compilation but it didn't fit on a cd, so I'm happy someone else is busy with that.
Kristin Hersh's memoir Rat Girl / Paradoxical Undressing about the band's early days is also out now. On the Barnes & Noble website you can find a video of a great interview about the book with some live songs, go here. If you buy the book or if you get a Strange Angels subscription, you get excess to the Throwing Muses Season's Sessions. The band records 8 songs every season that you can download for free. The 32 songs will also be released on CD after the project.
