Thurston Moore - Ono Soul

Thurston Moore's infamous first solo record Psychic Hearts from 1995 is great. It was released inbetween Experimental Jet Set, Trash And No Star and Washing Machine. It was reissued by geffen in 2006 together with Sonic Youth's The Whitey Album and the Sonic Youth EP from 1981.
'Ono Soul' was the only single off it.

Les Rythmes Digitales - Soft Machine / Damaged People

These are the darkest tracks from Darkdancer, LRD's second record from 1999. At that time the whole 80's sound wasn't popular at all, it really made me look different at synthpop at the time. Eleven years later it is still very good.

Kristin Hersh - Echo EP

Do you hear the loudest sound, and you and me in the echo? Kristin sings on the first single from her 1999 album Sky Motel. I will get to that album later, first the singles.
The b-sides are covers, 'Everybody's Got something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey' and Nirvana's 'Pennyroyal Tea' which suits Kristin's voice very well.

Cat Power - Nude As The News / Wonderwall

This is my favourite Cat Power single, taken from What Would The Community Think? Below you can see a stunning tv performance where she uses Kim Gordon's guitar. The b-side of the single is a cover of Sonic Youth's 'Schizophrenia', which she ofcourse changed dramatically. Cat Power has a talent for reinventing songs and make them her own. Her first covers record is one of the best things she released.
'Wonderwall' isn't on it, but it's a good example of how she can transform a popsong in something supersad.

The Breeders - Fate To Fatal EP

Last year The Breeders released this EP for the ATP festival. They silkscreened the sleeves themselves and sold it through their website.
The title track is a good Breeders rocker, 'The Last Time' has Mark Lanegan on vocals, which is a shame ofcourse. 'Pinnacle Hollow' is Kim Deal minimalism, but the nicest track here is 'Chances Are', a Bob Marley cover. Kelley Deal directed the video for 'Fate To Fatal'. Fate To Fatal mp3.

Kelley Polar - I Need You To Hold On While The Sky Is Falling

Kelley Polar's beautiful second album I Need You To Hold On While The Sky Is Falling is as hysterical as the title suggest. It's different than his first one Love Songs From The Hanging Gardens but as cool. The video for the best track 'Chrysanthemum' is a masterpiece. I saw him live twice after this record was released, the first time was at a festival and it looked like a play, everybody was dressed up in white and was standing behind macs looking into a distance, really weird. The second time was more a party with Kelley never leaving the bottle of white wine in his hand. Below a live version of 'Entropy Reigns', ' A Feelling Of The All-Thing' from the album and the 'Chrysanthemum' video, enjoy.
