Throwing Muses - Carnival Wig

'Carnival Wig' is one of the best TM songs ever, it's from Red Heaven. It's one of those Kristin Hersh songs that kick in hard every time I hear it. The guitar sounds lonely and then all of a sudden there's this scream that goes right to my nerves.Throwing Muses are mixing their new record at the moment. It has 35 songs so it's making up for all the years without Throwing Muses record.
The band has just released the third chapter of their Season Sessions. The sessions accompany Kristin Hersh's novel Paradoxical Undressing and are released on the first day of every new season. The spring session has 'Carnival Wig'. Download Fall, Winter and Spring here.
I couldn't upload the track on soundcloud because of some copyright thing, so here's a video of the band playing 'Carnival Wig' in 2000:

A Very Short Film About Kristin Hersh

This is a beautiful short film / trailer for Kristin Hersh' just released memoir Paradoxical Undressing (released in the U.S. last year as Rat Girl) , about her early days in Throwing Muses.
She plays 'Slippershell', an outtake from her recent solo record Crooked plus it's highlight, 'Flooding', a song that always slaps me in the face whenever I hear it. The version on the record is nice, but when played live 'Flooding' becomes so raw and sad. I personally think it's one of her best songs ever.
Throwing Muses are in the studio now recording an album, Kristin updates via twitter. I can't wait to hear it. There's some studio footage now on vimeo, and especially 'Sunray Venus' sounds good.
Have a look at the film below, it was directed by Jory Hull and produced by Mike Sullo.

Throwing Muses - Film

Throwing Muses are currently in the studio recording a new record. It's completely funded by fans, there's no record company involved. Kristin Hersh released a new demo every month of 2010. With subscriptions through her CASH Music website, the band came alive after a 7 year hiatus
I've been a subcriber now for 2 years. It's the best bill I have to pay, I actually know the money is going somewhere good, somewhere where my heart is. It's very cool to be involved and see such a talented singer-songwriter go her own path.
Below the stream of the last demo in this series, 'Film'. For the mp3, an essay about the song and more information on how you can support Throwing Muses go to throwingmuses.cashmusic.org/.
Throwing Muses are also releasing free sessions every season with songs from older records getting a 2010 approach. The 'Winter' 6 track session is here. It includes 'Colder' from House Tornado, the great 'Hook In Her Head' and a sharp version of 'Soap & Water' (also streaming below).

Throwing Muses - Season Sessions; Fall

Throwing Muses are working on a new record and so far the demo's sound excellent. They also record sessions every season that are initially available as a free download but will later form a boxset released alongside the new album. The first Season Session just came out with tracks from Limbo, Hunkpapa The Fat Skier and Throwing Muses. It also has one of my favourite Muses songs, 'Red Eyes' from the Bright Yellow Gun single. LinkThe stream is below, you can download the tracks here:

Throwing Muses - Cherry Candy / Dripping Trees

This new Throwing Muses demo was released today. Below also a compilation of the demo's so far. Most of these songs were written after the Limbo album from 1996. There are about 40 songs now for the new record. Along with the release there will also be a Throwing Muses anthology with songs from 1986 to 1996. I tried to make my own compilation but it didn't fit on a cd, so I'm happy someone else is busy with that.
Kristin Hersh's memoir Rat Girl / Paradoxical Undressing about the band's early days is also out now. On the Barnes & Noble website you can find a video of a great interview about the book with some live songs, go here. If you buy the book or if you get a Strange Angels subscription, you get excess to the Throwing Muses Season's Sessions. The band records 8 songs every season that you can download for free. The 32 songs will also be released on CD after the project.

The Breeders - The Pod Demo's

Kim Deal was in the Pixies and Tanya Donelly was in Throwing Muses when they started writing songs together, they demoed them, sent them to 4AD and got immediately signed. Some of these songs ended up on the first record Pod, 'You Always Hang Around' became 'Divine Hammer' on Last Splash and this beautiful version of 'Silver' was later recorded for Doolittle. 'Rave On' and 'Overcome' were never properly recorded.
These demo's sound super sweet, the songs became more sharp on Pod. The quality is not so good, but I think it adds more charm.
You can get the mp3's from No Aloha here.

Through her CASH project, people can support the development of the record with cash and the demo's are free to download for everybody. So if you want this new Throwing Muses record to happen, sign up here.

First demo 'Sunray Venus' sounds haunted and driven and I can't wait to hear the drums and bass added. I hope the other two Muses will participate in the demo's in the future.

50 Foot Wave - Golden Ocean

Golden Ocean is 50 Foot Wave's debut LP from 2005. It includes some re-recorded songs from the 50 Foot Wave EP. It's a very fast and hard record.
