I saw Crystal Stilts last week, it was a very cool gig. I missed them the last time they were playing and I always regret that. Their second record In Love With Oblivion is played here everyday, it's going to be one of my favourites this year for sure. Below the new video for 'Shake the Shackles', the first single from that record released last year.
The second Crystal Stilts record In Love With Oblivion is out April 11th on Fortuna Pop! and Slumberland. I'm very much looking forward to it, there's no Crystal Stilts song that I don't love. This month they release the second single off it called 'Through The Floor'. Below the stream plus the LP tracklist.
The new Crystal Stilts 7" is called 'Shake The Shackles' and is out October 26th. The b-side is called 'Magnetic Moon' and is exclusive to this single. The 2nd album is out early 2011. You can preorder the single from Midheaven and hear 15 second snippets of both songs. Why not 30 seconds? UPDATE: the stream is here !
Frankie Rose was the drummer in Vivian Girls and wrote their best song 'Where Do You Run To?'. She left for Crystal Stilts and added her skills prominently to their sound, the drums on these Crystal Stilts songs sound dark and subdued and show a deep interest in sound. Then she went to work with the Dum Dum Girls and gave that band a firm backbone with static, hard pounding drums. Now she's totally focused on her own band Frankie And The Outs. They released the single 'Thee Only One' last year on Slumberland and in september that label will release the self-titled debut album. It's a great record with a lot of reverb, harmonies and 60's girl group influences. I think the best track is 'Candy', it really sticks in your head immediately. Download 'Little Brown Haired Girls' here, and listen to 'Candy' below.
The best song from Crystal Stilts' first EP is 'Converging In The Quiet'. It's the perfect dreamy popsong, beautiful drums and great vocals. They recorded it again for their debut LP and renamed it 'Departure'. This version is a bit harder and faster, the guitar is more prominent. I still don't know which version I like best. I'm very happy with the Crystal Stilts, I hope they release a new LP soon. This year they also released the single Love Is A Wave, which you can get from RCRD LBL.
